5 Temple as The Most Beautiful Temples in Bali

Bali! “The island of paradise”. Bali has the unique thing to see and visit. Most visitor come to Bali to se the beautiful panorama and the unique tradition and culture. As we know Bali is famous as Island of Thousand Temples. In every corner of this island, we will easily find many temples either it is a big or small temple. Those temples in Bali have various functions, as a worship place or tourist destination for those tourists who travel to Bali. Among thousands temples in Bali, there are 5 temples that could be categorized as the most beautiful temples in Bali. These 5 temples had its own uniqueness and characteristic from architecture side or the shaped of the temple building. Besides that, the location of some temples is also unusual. Here is 5 most beautiful temples in Bali.

  1. Besakih Temple

Besakih temple is located in Besakih Village, Rendang District, Karangasem Regency. Besakih Temple is the highest temple in Bali because it located at the hillside of Agung Mount (the highest mount in Bali), which is stand on height of 1000 meters above sea level. Besakih Temple Complex consist of 1 central temple (Pura Penataran Agung Besakih) and 18 companion temples ( 1 Pura Basukian and 17 others temple). Pura Basukian or Basukian Temple is the place where revelation of God received by Hyang Rsi Markendya,the pioneer of the currently Hindu Dharma Religion in Bali.Besakih Temple is a centre of all temples activities in Bali. Among all temples that included into Besakih Temple Complex, Pura Penataran Agung or Penataran Agung Temple is the biggest, have so many pelinggih (worship place),  have the most many ceremony and it is a centre of all temples in Besakih Temple Complex. There are 3 statues at Pura Penataran Agung or the main stana symbol temple of God’s nature Tri Murti which are God Brahma, God Siwa, amd God Wisnu.

  1. Lempuyang Temple

Lempuyang Temple located at the top of Bisbis Hill (Lempuyang Mount) in Purahayu Village, Abang District, Karangasem Regency. The distances is around 16 kilometers from Amlapura Downtown. The feature of this temple is the building shape which really unique with thousands stairs and it located at the top of the hill with beautiful landscape around. To reach Lempuyang Temple, we have to drive expertly because the road toward the top of hill is steep. Besides that, we have to be super careful because the road is narrow and winding. And the most important, your body condition should be well when you visit Lempungan Temple, because we will hike through thousands stairs to reach the temple.

  1. Taman Ayun Temple

Taman Ayun means the beautiful garden. According to its name, Taman Ayun Temple is literally beautiful. Temple complex that consist of 10 temples with different height (from 2 levels up to 11 levels) often become a highlight of Bali. This temple is located in Mengwi Village, Mengwi District, Tabanan Regency, Bali. It takes approximately 20 kilometers from Denpasar.Taman Ayun Temple was built by first king of Mengwi Kingdom in XVII century (years of 1634). Taman Ayun Temple Complex is really spacious and consist of 4 parts. The outermost part is a pond that surrounding the temple complex. The second part is the lush garden with various kind of plant and green grass. The next part that separated with hedge (the third and fourth parts) is the main construction of Taman Ayun Temple Complex which are 10 temples that surrounded by beautiful lotus pond. The building that  shaped like “meru” (the layers roof) with different height  stands beautiful right at the centre of Taman Ayun Temple Complex.

  1. Tanah Lot Temple

Tanah Lot is one of famous tourist destination in Bali. It located in Beraban Village, Kediri District, Tabanan Regency. The distance is around 13 kilometers toward Tabanan from Ngurah Rai Airport. It was built on 2 different places. One is located on a big rock and another one is located on the cliff that jutting toward the sea like Uluwatu Temple. This cliff connect the temple and the land like a bridge. Tanah Lot Temple is a part of Kahyangan Jagat Temple in Bali, as a place to worship the God of sea keeper. Tanah Lot Temple will appear surrounded by the water when the sea is tide. There is a small cave that inside the cave there is a sea snake.

  1. Ulun Danu Beratan Temple

Ulun Danu Beratan temple is a holy place for Hindus that located in the corner of Beratan Lake inside Bedugul tourism area, Candikuning village, Baturiti District, Tabanan Regency, Bali. It takes 56km from Denpasar through Denpasar – Singaraja bypass. Ulun Danu Beratan Temple will appear like floating on the water when the lake is tide. The name of Ulun Danu Beratan Temple derived from the lake where this temple was built on Beratan Lake. The name of Beratan Lake is not far from Beratan Mount as God and Goddess as fertility resource, prosperity to keep the prosperity in life. Ulun derived from “Hulu” word that means head or authority and in this case Ulun Danu Beratan means the lake’s strength which is Goddess of Lake.
