Pemuteran Village located in the west littoral of Bali Island, approximately about 55 km toward the west side of Singaraja city and 30 km from Gilimanuk there is a fascinating sea garden that has been recognized by many people in the world. It is a coral garden with the total area of 2.5 hectares that successfully established with bio rock technique in the depth of 15 meters of Pemuteran sea, Buleleng, Bali. This underwater garden was successfully built on the “community-based tourism” concept which is well implemented. The establishment of tourism that involved the local people’s participation caused the tourism in this village evolves. This beautiful sea garden built together in the year of 2000 by local tourism entrepreneur and local people.
Through a foundation named Yayasan Karang Lestari, people back greening the territorial of Pemuteran Sea, which was in a critical situation at that time. The awareness of local people became a success key of coral garden establishment in Pemuteran. Biorock technique uses for accelerate the process of coral reefs conservation faster than normal growth.
The result of Pemuteran Sea now has been apparently seen. There are more than 80 kinds of coral reefs, and hundreds of species of fishes grow prolific in 2.5 hectares area of Pemuteran Sea. Even just a few meters away, there is a sea garden, an underwater garden which also built with bio rock technique. The difference is electric current in sea garden is driven by the solar system.
Sea garden was built by putting six shipwrecks, dozens of Buddha statues, as well as heaps of old buildings in the depth of 20 meters as framework coral reefs. This sea garden has become the tourist attraction so that many tourists come to Pemuteran Village. Nowadays, there are built some hotels and dive center. Those hotels also contribute fund every month for preservation fee which is to pay Pecalang Laut (sea guard) and sea gardener. Aside of that, 5% of diving cost contributed to a traditional village for its rehabilitation cost.
