The Turtle Conservation and Education Center is located in Serangan Island. It opened by Bali Governor, Mr. Dewa Brata (Jan 20th 2006) in Serangan Island. Many turtle was catch and the egg was eaten by people. Because of that, Serangan Village creates this conversation. Balinese People also used turtle in some ceremony. This place is the best place for learning the life circle of the turtle.
This place is the best place to conserve turtle and save their nets. The people collect turtle egg in beaches of Serangan Island and bring into the conservation. The egg is given a label, when they hatch out, and what kind of turtle they are. After hatching out, some baby turtle keep in conservation and released into the sea. Not too much baby of turtle will grow up, they will catch by snake, bird, shark in the sea. Beside of that, you can learning about turtle and get much information about turtle. There are 7 kinds’ turtle in the world and Indonesia has 6 kinds like Leatherback Sea Turtle (Dermochelys coriacea), Green Sea Turtle (Chelonia mydas), Olive Ridley Sea Turtles (Lepidochelys olivacea), Hawksbill Sea Turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata), Flatback Sea Turtle (Natator depressus) and Loggerhead Sea Turtle (Caretta Caretta).
In TCEC, the public can see three of the six species of sea turtles that live in Indonesia, namely the green sea turtle, hawksbill sea turtle, and olive ridley sea turtles. The green sea turtle has a shell contour scaly but smooth texture. The hawksbill sea turtle has a shell with more rugged contours and looks sharp and layered like fish scales. The Olive Ridley sea turtles have the most smooth scales shape with rounded shape middle scales and scales elongated side. These three types of turtles we can find in Serangan Island are the turtles naturally spawning in the waters of Bali. The TCEC is helping sea turtles from going extinct and as a charity organization, depends strongly on donations. No entrance fee is charged to visit the center, leaving it entirely up to you if you want to leave a donation (no matter how big or small). I think this place is best destination to spend your holiday.
