The Beautifull Lake On The Hill

Located at the top of Mount Kelimutu, Ende Regency, Flores, East Nusa Tenggara Province, Lake Kelimutu is already known as a three-color lake. This lake consists of three lakes that have different water colors. In addition to the beauty of the lake, you will also be presented with a natural panorama of the Kelimutu mountains which are still very beautiful. Mount Kelimutu which is as high as 1,640 meters above sea level (masl) is not the only mountain here, because there are two other mountains, namely Mount Kelido (16.41 masl) and Mount Kelibara 1,630 (masl)

Geographically, Lake Kelimutu is located within the Kelimutu National Park area, Ende Regency. To get to Lake Kelimutu, you can start the journey from the center of Ende City. From Ende City, you can go to the village at the foot of Mount Kelimutu, namely Moni Village. The distance from Moni Village to the gate of Kelimutu National Park can be reached by walking for about 30 minutes.

The lake was first discovered by a Dutchman (thousands of Lio people) in 1915, Van Such Telen. Scientifically, the discoloration of Lake Kelimutu is a factor in the content of minerals, lichens and rocks in the crater and also the influence of the Sun’s light. Scientists are convinced that this lake was formed from the eruption of volcanic mountains in ancient times. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of geologists due to the presence of lakes that have three different colors but are on this same mountain.

Kelimutu National Park is home to 19 species of endangered birds. The bird species are Punai Flores (Treron Floris), Wallacea Owl (Otus Silvicola), Jungle-Swinging Brush (Rhinomyias Oscillans), Flores Kancilan (Pachycephala Nudigula), Sepah Dwarf (Pericrocotus Lansbergei), Tesia Timor (Tesia Everetti), Crested Opior (Lophozosterops Dohertyi), Thick-billed Opior (Heleia Crassirostris), Golden Chili (Dicaeum Annae), Kehicap Flores (Monarcha Sacerdotum), Matari Honeybird (Nectarinia solaris), and Flores Eagle (Spizaetus floris).
